[lazarus] Newbie bad installation

I have downloaded and installed latest fpc snapshot (Linux).
Extracted lazarus.zip and runned make, make install.
When I try to run the lazarus execute it won't start and  if I try to
run it from a terminal
there are error messages about GTK objects.
I'm running this on Mandrake 7.0 which have Gtk+ version 1.2.6-6mdk.
Can anyone help me with this, please.
