Hmm, none of this appears on my machine...
For me, it is indeed way faster and looks much better than GNOME 1.x.
But your mileage obviously varies...

Metacity or any GNOME2 app has yet to crash on me... But maybe it is 
because I use updated packages for GNOME from Cooker, don't know...
