I doubt it has much to do with Microsoft - its more a case of economics. Kylix is not a money spinner for Borland and so its dead (or on ice) cause its not econimically viable at the moment (Borland is placing its bets on c++builderX instead). The Microsoft investment allowed for an exchange of technology and thats why .Net has an OO and RAD feel similar to Delphi - it also ended all patent action against Microsoft by Borland.

.Net is an irrelevant technology cause it does not offer much over Java. Enterprises will not touch .Net cause of the vendor lock and the lack of trust in Microsoft. Java is established and with 78% of all computer graduates being taught it at university it will remain dominant in the web services department. .Net will be a big failure in my opinion (the current uptake is very slow and far worse than Miocrosoft expected) and I just wish all those mono developers would come back and work on GnomeBasic and Lazarus instead.

Someone wrote there: look for Lazarus ...
And i did!
I was surprised an also a little sad ...
At first: Wonderfull, and then, oh, no TDataset, mhm, and and
OK. The developers did a great job, but i think you are too few.
Lazarus needs 20 or 30 developers that can do this job! (they have time
enough to do it, and the knowledge)

Give it 6 months and I'm sure it will be the best RAD development tool for Linux. I first looked at it 6 months ago and it has come a very long way since then...

mhm, i cannot promise to can do a lot for Lazarus, but i will try to help,
all my work depents from: Delphi, Firebird Database and IBO now ...
And with Lazarus i hope, i can migrate to LINUX, Firebird is no problem,
soon there will be a Firebird for AMD64, a 64bit version ....
On SUSE and other Linux-systems firebird 1.5 is running very nice ....
For IBO, i know there is a beta-version for Kylix, perhaps its possible
to migrate to Lazarus too ....

So, enough of my writings ... till soon again

A happy new year for all Lazarus-Developers !!!

regards
Prom
