There are many possibilities; I suggest either

- Firebird: There is a low-level API translation and a
  TDataset descendent component available.

- sqlite: We have translated the API header files, so you can
  use it, but no TDataset component yet. Having done the translation,
  I think it should not be hard to implement.

I currently recommend against mysql, since it has a fluctuating
API interface, and people too often report problems.
