O joy not only differences in gtk 1 & 2 but also in 2 itself :(

Indeed, thats BTW why I converted X11Display to a function.

I'm aware of that doc. I already have seen that some functs that I need 
from X are part of gtk2. Using those functions is one of the next steps.
