Nice, thanks.

xdg-open is quite handy for many things.  It launches the correct
application for the job (most of the times).

Example on my system:

  xdg-open /home/graemeg    -->  Nautilus file manager in home directory
  xdg-open somefile.pdf   --> evince pdf viewer
  xdg-open http://...     --> Firefox web browser


The user can customise what applications xdg-open uses, but I can't
remember from memory how that is done.
