Hi, did you try the latest OpenSuse 11.2? The earlier 11.x versions had issues 
at least with KDE4. For me this latest Suse looks very good. It has been 
optimized a lot, too. Everything is fast and snappy with my 500MB memory. In 
practice KDE3/QT3 libraries are not needed any more.
It gets my recommendation!

A small issue is that the "qtcurve" GTK theme lib seems to crash Lazarus in 
every OpenSuse. It is easy to fix once you know the reason.
