Just a wild guess. Are you sure that your mouse works properly?
I've already thrown away a number of mice (mainly Microsoft's, but maybe 
it's a coincidence), which had started generating two clicks instead of 
just one. If the second click has the same effect of the first you don't 
notice, but in this case it can make the difference.
