[Lazarus] Is adding all the related files to a package the way to stop units proliferating in the output directory?

What do you mean with "whenever I recompile"?
Compile (Ctrl-F9), Build (Shift-F9), Clean up and build, ...
changing compiler options and build, ...

What are "other additional files"?

Using packages can be used to reduce recompilations.
