I fully agree with that. I'm actually busy doing exactly that in fpGUI
too. I want the default icon set to be SVG only. AggPas (the new fpGUI
graphics backend) has excellent SVG support. AggPas is included with
Lazarus too, so that could be used there as well.

On a side note:
 I experimented in fpGUI using FontAwesome too - yes, the web technology
for scaleable icons. That works very well in fpGUI too. :) Though I
still think SVG is the better option.
