I'm quite aware of this.  Just being a little silly  ;-)

I believe that this is the original english form, and is indeed how the
english still pronounce it.  After all, many letters sound nothing like
their name (eg. "W").  At least "Zed" has a "Z" sound in it.

America changed a lot of things from the original english (Australia changed
a couple of things as well, just not nearly as much).  Mostly this is
spelling.  colour <-> color, labour <-> labor, gaol <-> jail, disc <-> disk.

I'm often amused to see language options on the net (eg. downloading
Netscape) having an option of "English (American)".  Does this mean that
they acknowledge that the language they are using isn't strictly english, or
is it that many Americans don't realise that the language they speak is
called "english"?
