[lazarus] Questions on compiling

I made one mistake in my original message. I was trying to compile under win 2000 professional (not 98). So I downloaded as the lazarus page says some files from sygwin, and the compilation works...

What I was unable to make it to work is the linker. It is truncating the file names to 8 characters and in unable to link.

I downloaded the lattest version of ldw (from the fpc site) with should be compatible with win 2000 but it didn't work.

What should I do?

I want lazarus working before starting to work on it.
