Older distributions sometimes asked this. (Do you want to make a symlink
from libbla.so to libbla.so.x.y), e.g. older Slackwares.

This seems to have disappeared from newer distro's, even Slackware, with
nothing to replace it.

I don't think this is entirely logical; removing some questions to make
installation easier, but forcing users to fix it themselves :-)
