You are right. Plz give suggestions for nice defaults.

Not yet. But I like the idea. Not only for size, but to define custom start values for all simple properties. If for example a user prefers to use flat TSpeedButtons, then it should be possible to define TSpeedButton.Flat=true as default. 
Some ideas for the frontend:
The OI Popupmenu gets some new items: 
- 'Set as start value'
- 'Edit start values'

In the 'Edit components start values' dialog, all overriden start values are shown and can be edited.
