AFAIK it is possible to get them both installed w/out problems, I have them 
both installed, but since I wasn't the one who did it I am not certain how 
difficult it is or if anything special has to be done to ensure everything 
works smoothly. I checked Red-Carpet, and they have a gnome-2 branch, you 
may be able to use that.
