   $ git log

...and look for the first line that has the following format in the 
commit comments.

"git-svn-id: http://svn2.freepascal.org/svn/lazarus/trunk@21150 
4005530d-fff6-..."

The SVN revision in this case is r21150. I still need to update the 
Lazarus About dialog to detect revisions when SVN or Git is used. That 
isn't difficult, I just need to make the time.
