Thanks for the links.  In the mean time I waisted more bandwidth and
downloaded the 0.9.28.2 release from SourceForge, and then simply
replaced the compiler with the 2.4.0rc1. Everything seems to work okay
now, but I haven't tried to recompile the Lazarus IDE though.
