There is also InstantObjects free persistent object framework which can 
be included as Lazarus package. It needs improvements but uses XML for 
object/class descriptions.I was working to make it usable but drop 
interest due to personal issues.
An integrated class designer which additionally can output to IObjects 
XML format which can be used with IObjects framework would be quantum 
leap imho.
