[Lazarus] FreePascal Source not found in Ubuntu

Is the fpc-source necessary for Lazarus to work properly? I would expect the
documentation to mention it if it is.

After installing the source directory is  /usr/share/fpcsrc/$(FPCVER)/

The version as of now is 2.2.4-3
