[Lazarus] Lazarus and FPC versions for Ubuntu 10?

I have never ever touched SVN, so I have no clue as to what to do to

Our outfit is using CVS since the beginning of this millennium (actually
CVSNT).

So what you say is that the one available on Synaptic Package Manager is no
good?
That is FPC 2.4.0-2...
Lazarus itself seems OK at least by inspecting the download link on SF.

Since I don't know anything about SVN that option is probably not for me.

The VMWare Easy Install took care of the tools installation for me so they
are safely installed. :-)
The list would be welcome so I can get a bleeding edge updated system. :-)
