Thanks for the link!
But I was a bit disappointed by the text on the download page:

"This project is the conversion of the Comport Package of dejancrn and dybdahl,
for lazarus pascal project. It just work on windows but in the future,
I traduce it to
 work under lazarus for linux."

Since my big concern is to run the serial comm under Linux, it looks like this
solution is also not going to work for me....
