I'm not following with what you are trying to get at? I'm using a
rather old Lazarus compiled around 10 Jan 2011, and I have no problems
opening that file or any other files in that directory. What was I
supposed to see that was so amazing?

I'm using Ubuntu Linux 8.04.4 32-bit here on my home laptop.
