It was a long road, with often complete replacement of the basic code
starting with Win9x, Wine, finally WinNT. The grapics stuff (GDI...) has
been replaced several times, too, with the goal to use readily available
and still evolving third-party packages.

That's what I observed as well. Perhaps Lazarus applications work better
with the QT widgets instead of native Windows controls.
