Somewhere on the FPC wiki there is a page listing lots of projects
created with FPC & Lazarus. I think I saw a POS system there, but can't
remember if it was open source.

I also remember seeing one based on tiOPF, which would give you the
database server agnostic feature you want. Searching the tiOPF support
newsgroup might reveal where the code is located - sorry I can't
remember that off the top of my head.
