They really liked the idea that FPC  and Lazarus can compile the same code
on win32 and linux.

I've had the same experience with some other software projects I did.
Non-gui though. It seems like there will be a real market for a RAD on Linux
so this is good news. An incentive to get something out quickly, and
establish a position.
