I see. You are saying that we could have the object assume that the
image is a set of square glyphs and figure out the number for them. They
can use that or set their own value for the number of glyphs.

Sure I can see that work.

In the case of buttons that would seem to work fine since usually the
images on the button are square. If they want to supply unsquare buttons
then they would have to indicate how many images are contains in the
glyph.
