Why dont you use streams ? Forgive my ignorence, but the speed of the mwedit
component in Lazarus is not at all the same as the original. Could this be
OS dependant stuff thats happening there ? Has anyone tested it in Lazarus
under Windows ?

As to the readln and writeln I wonder why the code would still be slow while
typing when what you are currently trying to solve is the reading and
writing of the file. Are those not seperate issues ?
