[lazarus] New to Lazarus...

Make sure you do a cvs checkout lazarus
before trying to update lazarus.
If it says that "nothing known about lazarus" that means that you didn't
check it out or your in the wrong base directroy when doing your update.
Take a look at other product/projects of mine below!
