[lazarus] Building Lazarus

G'day all,
I have had this problem for a while and wonder if anyone else experiences it.
I'm running Debian Woody, and latest CVS 1.0.7 and CVS Lazarus.

I can't build Lazarus smartlinked.
If I try to build it with smartlinking enabled in my fpc.cfg file, it gets to
linking point and ld consumes all available memory, then the kernel terminates the process.
Static linking works ok, except that a basic hello world compiles to 700kb.

Is anyone else compiling smartlinked?
