Okay I've completely eliminated my code from the mix.  All this time I 
thought it was my code.

Open Lazarus (not opening last project) NO custom packages installed.  
No custom components installed.

Project+New Project From File
Select some .lpr that you have... doesn't matter what.
BTW: Don't save... unless you want to.
Look at your palette tabs.  About half or more of the components are gone.

Similar but less dramatic effects by just opening a project.
