Yes. That's it.

No. If you have 1.0 out and want to break an interface, release it as 
2.0. No problem...

In a couple of years "Lazarus 7.5" looks a lot better than 0.9.54(beta).

Remember. Even a lot of dumb users can help because:
  - They will attract more users and some of them might be not so dumb.
  - Some of them will become less dumb.
  - Some of them will will help testing, documenting and...
  ... some of them will become contributors.
  - They will attract more contributors because it will make the project 
look more viable and highlight its strengths.
