[Lazarus] Installation of packages doesn't work

How did you install lazarus?
1. svn
2. svn plus install
3. dmg - which one?

How do you start lazarus?

Have you looked into ~/.lazarus/bin/ for the new lazarus and tried to  
start it manually?
