What revision of 1.5 do you mean?
1.5 was renamed to 1.6. So the only difference is FPC 3.0.0 and FPC
3.0.1, right?

1.6 has more code than 1.4.4. Smart linking and WPO should remove
most of it.

About "faster": You need to give more information what and how you
tested.
