[sorry if this is not the appropriate location for this message, but I
know here are many Synapse users]

I see Synapse is still being developed on SourceForge.net, but the
official website [http://synapse.ararat.cz/doku.php] shows the last
release dated 2012.

Has the original author moved on to other things?

Is the SourceForge.net project a fork of the original?
