Because .NET is not cross platform. A lot of talk, and a lot of bla, but noone
has yet displayed an ordinary Visual .NET app that runs on something else
than a recent Windows NT version (not even '98)

There are a lot of

Microsoft _pronounced_ it dead, but if .NET fails to catch on, that can
change any minute.

See Intel, that pronounced x86 dead already 3 times.

That is because IE6 has .NET as a new virus procreation subsystem.

Only the cmdline compiler is .NET afaik.

Not is it not. It has some .NET compiler where Icaza is playing with,
but the change that it will ever run a standard .NET windows app is below
zero.

We could build a C# parser into Lazarus. Will you stop using Visual Studio
.NET than?

No, because it isn't the real thing :-)

Maybe .Net will be usable a bit cross platform, maybe not. But it is that
new and unproven that it is still a few years to early for this kind of
decisions.
